Plarn Bed Project

The Rotary Club of Milton took on a new service project this year in making a Plarn bed for the homeless. A Plarn bed is a rolled up mat made out of cut up plastic grocery bags and crocheted into a mat that the individual and easily carry around. Each bed is lightweight, easily washable or rinsed off and can be quickly rolled up for easy transport.

Our club has committed to crocheting four beds this year. Two have been completed and two more are near completion. For members not able to crochet, our club has committed that each member will purchase a closed-cell sleeping mat from Walmart to donate.

We partnered with a local Girl Scout troup out of Crabapple Elementary School to assist in making one of the beds. We will also be working with the troup to have a blanket drive in May so that we may also donate blankets to local shelters.
